Chapter 12

Two months later, Nick and Hayley were married and enjoying married life.

        “Baby, are you sure you’ll be okay going to the doctor with Brian and Leighanne,” Nick said.

        “I’ll be fine, you need to go hang out with AJ and Howie, you’ve been by my side since we were out on the boat after we found out about the baby, just go have fun, okay, I’ll see you later,” Hayley said. Nick kissed her deeply. He moaned.

        “I love you so much,” Nick said.

        “I love you, too,” Hayley said. He kissed her hungrily. AJ and Howie came in.

        “Kaos, come on, man,” AJ said. They pulled Nick away and out the door. Brian and Leighanne came in and took her to the hospital for her appointment. After it was over, they were heading out when AJ and Howie came running in.

        “Guys, where’s Nicky,” Hayley said. She looked past them and froze. Two paramedics were wheeling in a stretcher and she saw Nick lying on it.

        “What happened,” Brian said.

        “A drunk driver hit my car, on Nick’s side, he’s hurt bad,” AJ said.

        “Oh god no,” Hayley said collapsing to the floor. Brian caught her and held her as she watched them wheel Nick into the OR.

        “Hayley, you have to stay calm,” Brian said.

        “Stay calm, how can I, Brian, when my husband is fighting for his life,” Hayley said.

        “Your baby, Hayley, Nick’s baby, the baby you are carrying, the baby that is a part of you and Nick,” Brian said. Hayley looked at him and tried to calm down. He helped her to one of the couches He sat down. Leighanne sat next to him. Hayley laid down with her head in his lap and just tried to relax. She put her hand on her stomach and just stared at the ceiling. Kevin came in. AJ told him what happened. Kevin sat down and they all waited for word. Four hours later, the doctor came out. Brian told Hayley. She got up and went to the doctor.

        “How is Nick,” Hayley said.

        “And you are?” the doctor asked.

        “Hayley Carter, Nick’s wife,” Hayley said. Brian stood behind her with Leighanne.

        “Mrs. Carter, we operated on your husband’s left knee, it was completely shattered in the car accident, he has a concussion, and he’s in a coma,” the doctor said.

        “But he’s going to be okay?” Hayley asked.

        “He’s in stable condition,” the doctor said.

        “Can we see him?” Brian asked.

        “Your relation?” the doctor said.

        “We are his brothers, his family,” Kevin said.

        “Mrs. Carter,” the doctor said.

        “They are family, he would want them here, they are his brothers, not by blood, but they are family,” Hayley said.

        “Mrs. Carter,” the doctor said.

        “Doctor, this is Brian, Howie, AJ, and Kevin, with Nick, they are the Backstreet Boys, these four guys are like brothers to him, they take care of each other and it would be good if these four guys can see their little brother,” Hayley said. The doctor nodded and Brian, Leighanne, Kevin, AJ, Howie, and Hayley went down to Nick’s room.

Chapter 13

Hayley sat next to Nick and held his hand. She knew that she had to stay calm but how can she stay calm with the man she loved was in the hospital in a coma. Kevin sat next to her.

        “Hayley,” Kevin said.

        “Brian told me to stay calm, how can I, my husband is in a coma,” Hayley said holding Nick’s hand tight.

        “Like Brian said, for the baby, Hayley, when Nick wakes up and you are upset, he would be upset if you lose the baby,” Kevin said.

        “I know, he’s so excited about being a father, I don’t want him upset,” Hayley said.

Three days later, Hayley sat there watching Nick. Kevin came in with Brian behind him.

        “Hayley, Brian is taking you home to rest, I’ll be staying with Nick,” Kevin said.

        “I can’t leave him,” Hayley said.

        “Hayley, you need to rest and you aren’t getting it here, you need to rest for the baby, okay, for Nick,” Brian said.

        “Fine, god,” Hayley said. She left with Brian and went home. She laid in her and Nick’s bed and went to sleep. She was woken up by Brian.

        “Kevin just called, Nick’s awake,” Brian said. They went to the hospital and went to Nick’s room. Kevin came out.

        “Guys, Nick has amnesia, he doesn’t know who I am, he didn’t even know his name,” Kevin said. Hayley looked at him.

        “You are joking right,” Hayley said.

        “No, Kevin is not joking, Nick has amnesia,” the doctor said coming out of the room.

        “So he doesn’t know anybody,” Hayley said.

        “I’m sorry, but he doesn’t,” the doctor said.

        “So if I go in there, my husband won’t know me,” Hayley said.

        “I’m afraid so, Mrs. Carter,” the doctor said. Brian hugged her as she started to cry.

        “Can we go introduce ourselves, then?” Brian asked.

        “Yes,” the doctor said. Kevin went in first with Brian and Hayley following him. Nick looked at them.

        “Hello, Kevin, right,” Nick said.

        “Yes,” Kevin said.

        “Who are they?” Nick asked. Hayley stood behind Brian, wiping her eyes. She took a deep breath and stood beside Brian.

        “This is my cousin, Brian,” Kevin said. Nick shook his hand.

        “This is my best friend, Hayley,” Brian said. Hayley smiled a little and shook his hand.

        “Wow, are you expecting?” Nick asked.

        “Yes, I’m six months,” Hayley said.

        “So my name is Nick, right,” Nick said.

        “Yes,” Kevin said.

They heard commotion outside the room and Kevin went to see and saw AJ and Howie running down the hall with reporters behind them. They ran into the room and closed the door and locked it.

        “Nick, this is AJ, and this is Howie,” Kevin said. AJ and Howie looked at Kevin. Brian whispered to them.

        “Hi, I’m AJ,” AJ said.

        “Hi, I’m Howie,” Howie said.

        “Hi, I’m Nick, what was that all about,” Nick said looking at the door.

        “Reporters,” AJ said.

        “Are you guys famous?” Nick asked.

        “Actually, you, me, Brian, Howie, and AJ are in a music group, we are famous,” Kevin said.

        “I sing?” Nick asked.

        “Yes,” Kevin said. There was a knock at the door. Brian slowly opened it and saw reporters and cameras.

        “Brian, what’s the report on Nick,” one asked. Brian tried to close the door. Kevin tried but the reporters got into the room and made their way to the bed asking Nick a lot of questions. Nick tried to move away from them.

        “Hold it, everyone, will you please leave, Nick’s been through a lot and needs his rest and to recover, please give him some space and if you wait outside the hospital, Howie and I will come down with a statement but please leave this room, you are upsetting Nick,” Kevin said. The reporters left. Brian closed the door.

        “I’m sorry, guys, I thought that it was Leighanne,” Brian said.

        “You didn’t know, and you tried to keep them out,” Kevin said.

        “Who is Leighanne?” Nick asked.

        “My wife,” Brian said.

        “Oh,” Nick said. Hayley sat down in a chair.

        “You okay, Hayley,” Brian said.

        “Yeah, my feet were hurting,” Hayley said.

        “Just rest,” Brian said. Hayley nodded.

        “That was scary,” Nick said.

        “Sorry, man, they don’t like to listen most of the time,” AJ said.

        “They have to get info no matter what the cost is,” Howie said.

        “Let’s go make that statement,” Kevin said. Howie nodded and they went down to make a statement. They came back in and saw Nick asleep. Brian and Hayley were talking with AJ.

        “Okay, they should be satisfied for awhile,” Kevin said. Nick woke up.

        “Nick,” Kevin said.

        “What,” Nick said.

        “There is something you need to know,” Kevin said. Nick looked at them.

        “What’s that,” Nick said.

        “What do you remember?” Howie asked.

        “My name is Nick, I’m a singer, you are Howie, AJ, Brian, and Kevin, and you are Hayley, Brian’s best friend,” Nick said.

        “Nick, Hayley is married,” Kevin said.

        “Cool,” Nick said.

        “To you,” Kevin said.

        “What,” Nick said.

        “Hayley is your wife, and she’s having your baby,” Kevin said. Nick looked at Hayley.

        “Is this true?” Nick asked. Hayley nodded.

        “Yes,” Hayley said.

        “Oh boy,” Nick said.

        “You two have been married for one month,” Kevin said.

        “A month, we’ve been married a month,” Nick said.

        “Yes, Hayley didn’t know she was pregnant until she was four months along and you were planning to ask her to marry you before you two found out about the baby,” Kevin said.

        “So I’m married to Hayley,” Nick said.

        “Yes,” Kevin said.

        “She’s having my baby,” Nick said.

        “Yes,” Kevin said. Nick looked at Hayley. She looked at him.

        “Can you guys leave us alone,” Nick said. Kevin, Howie, AJ, and Brian went out the door. Nick looked at Hayley.

        “You okay?” Nick asked.

        “Yeah, I’m fine,” Hayley said.

        “You look upset,” Nick said.

        “I’m just glad you are okay, besides your leg and head,” Hayley said.

        “Yeah, amnesia,” Nick said.

        “Yeah,” Hayley said.

        “Where’s my family?” Nick asked.

        “Kevin got ahold of your father, he’s on his way with your brother and sisters, he couldn’t get ahold of your mother,” Hayley said.

        “Wouldn’t my mom be with my dad?” Nick asked.

        “Your parents got divorced a year ago,” Hayley said.

        “Oh,” Nick said.

        “Your father remarried, and I think your mother is engaged,” Hayley said.

        “So much for a perfect family,” Nick said.

        “From what Kevin and Brian told me, everything wasn’t perfect, you joined the group when you were 13, your mother was always with you and when you got older, you wanted everything to be just family with your mother but she wanted business, your brother, Aaron, is a singer, and his twin sister, Angel, is a model, you have two more sisters who are older than Aaron and Angel, Leslie who is the middle child, she sings, too, and BJ, who is older than Leslie, she models, too, you are the oldest, it goes, you, BJ, Leslie, Angel, and Aaron, oh, and your father has a daughter from a previous marriage, her name is Ginger, she’s older than you, and your father is married to a woman whose name is Ginger, also, I think she’s expecting a child so you will have a stepsibling,” Hayley said.

        “Wow,” Nick said.

        “But you think of Brian, Howie, AJ, and Kevin as your brothers, too, you have been with them for 12 years now, Kevin’s the oldest of the group, Howie’s next, then Brian, then AJ, and you are the youngest of the group,” Hayley said.

        “Fans?” Nick asked.

        “Every city you guys have toured, sold out, some cities you go to will have two shows, one day after another in the same city,” Hayley said.

        “Press?” Nick asked.

        “Well, everywhere you go, there’s the press,” Hayley said.

        “How did we meet?” Nick asked.

        “I was working at a grocery store, you were with Kevin visiting some of his soon to be ex-wife’s relatives near where I was working, I bumped into Kevin and helped him find cookies in the store, he introduced himself and he brought you to meet me,” Hayley said.

        “So Kevin hooked us up,” Nick said.

        “Yes,” Hayley said.

        “Kevin’s getting a divorce from his wife?” Nick asked.

        “Yeah, Kristin, that’s her name, she is an actress and she and Kevin were fighting because she didn’t want to be on tour, she wanted to go back home to start acting again,” Hayley said.

        “Wow, this is a lot of stuff,” Nick said.

        “Yeah, but you need to rest, too,” Hayley said. Nick nodded and closed his eyes.

Chapter 14

Two weeks later, Nick was home from the hospital. He still hasn’t gotten his memory back. AJ and Kevin took turns staying with Nick and Hayley to help. Hayley sat out on the patio staring out at the ocean. Kevin came out.

        “There you are,” Kevin said.

        “This is a good spot to relax, just watching the waves come in, listening to them, it’s very soothing,” Hayley said softly. Kevin sat next to her. She didn’t look at him.

        “Hayley, he’ll get his memory back,” Kevin said. Hayley nodded.

        “I just want my Nicky back, the one who knows me, the one who knows who he is and who everyone is, the one who tells me he loves me every minute of the day,” Hayley said.

        “It takes time, Hayley, you have to be patient,” Kevin said.

        “I’m trying, but it’s hard, Kev, I mean, I look at him and I just want to hear him tell me he loves me and everything he would say when he was normal,” Hayley said softly.

        “I’m sorry that I’m a problem for you,” Nick said from behind them. They turned and saw him outside the doors in his wheelchair.

        “I didn’t say you were,” Hayley said.

        “In a way you did, I can’t remember anything right now, if you don’t want to be around me with my mind the way it is, then leave, you know where the door is,” Nick said. Hayley ran out inside and ran out the front door. She got into her car and drove off.

Kevin sat there looking at Nick. Nick looked at him. Kevin stood up.

        “Good going, she’s upset now,” Kevin said.

        “I can’t be the guy she wants, I can’t get my memory back,” Nick said.

        “But you didn’t have to tell her to leave,” Kevin said.

        “I know, I’m just frustrated, not knowing who I am, this sucks,” Nick said. AJ came out and Kevin left to find Hayley. He went home and she didn’t go there. He called Brian. Brian said they haven’t seen her but if they do, they will call. Kevin drove all over town. He went to the airport and saw her car there. He ran inside and looked around. He saw her in the terminal for the flight to Missouri. He saw her get on the plane and by the time he got to security, she was on the plane. He watched the plane take off.  He went to Brian’s and told them. He went back to Nick’s house. He went in and saw AJ sitting in the living room with Nick.

        “Did you find her?” AJ asked.

        “At the airport, she got on a flight to Missouri, she must be going to her parents,” Kevin said.

        “My wife left me, it’s my fault, I drove her away,” Nick said.

        “She might be going away to think,” AJ said.

        “I drove her away, I told her if she couldn’t handle it, she knows where the door was,” Nick said. AJ looked at Nick.

        “We have to go talk to her,” AJ said.

        “I’ll go, you stay here with him,” Kevin said. He went out the door and got on a flight to Missouri and rented a car and drove to Hayley’s parents’ house.  He got out and went to the front door and knocked. Hayley’s mother opened the door and saw him.

        “She’s in her old room,” Mrs. Hardin said. Kevin nodded and went to Hayley’s room. He knocked and went in and saw her lying on the bed staring at the ceiling. She looked and saw him and sat up.

        “What are you doing here,” Hayley said.

        “Why did you take off like that,” Kevin said.

        “He didn’t want me around,” Hayley said.

        “He’s just frustrated because he can’t remember anything or who he is,” Kevin said.

        “Kevin,” Hayley said.

        “Hayley, come on back, your husband needs you no matter what, you know, til death do you part,” Kevin said.

        “Take your own advice,” Hayley said.

        “Yeah, she called, we are getting together to talk things out, I think she wants me back, and well, I want her back,” Kevin said.

        “That’s good,” Hayley said.

        “Do you want to go back to your husband?” Kevin asked.

        “I better,” Hayley said. They headed to the airport and got on a flight back to Florida.

Chapter 15

Nick sat there staring at the TV. He looked at AJ.

        “Did I always screw up?” Nick asked.

        “Sometimes,” AJ said.

        “Do you think she hates me?” Nick asked.

        “Why would she hate you?” AJ asked.

        “For what I said to her, I mean, about her having a problem with me not knowing what is what,” Nick said. AJ looked at him.

        “Nick, Hayley loves you, she couldn’t hate you for that, she is very emotional with her pregnancy,” AJ said.

        “She’s having my baby, right?” Nick asked.

        “Yes, we have told you that, why do you think she’s not,” AJ said.

        “With my memory loss, you could say anything I would believe,” Nick said.

        “I’ll call her doctor, she can tell you,” AJ said.

        “I have seen pictures of you guys and if we are in a music group, Hayley said you guys were like brothers to me, I know you guys wouldn’t lie to me,” Nick said. The front door opened and closed and Mandy came into the front room.

        “Who are you,” Nick said.

        “That’s Mandy, your ex-girlfriend, she came over New Year’s Eve wanting to get back together with you even though you two have been broken up for over three years now, you told her no and you found your true love,” AJ said glaring at Mandy.

        “AJ, you are a liar, we did get back together,” Mandy said. Nick looked at AJ.

        “You know he has amnesia, don’t you,” AJ said.

        “Yes, and I’m here to take care of him,” Mandy said. AJ shook his head.

        “Get out, Mandy, you are not going to take advantage of his memory loss, you better not be here when his WIFE gets home,” AJ said. The door opened and Hayley and Kevin came in. They saw Mandy. Kevin groaned.

        “Get your paws off my husband, Mandy,” Hayley said. Mandy looked at her.

        “Your husband, you are dreaming, you are just saying that because he has amnesia,” Mandy said.

        “I have the marriage license to prove it, and the rings, and pictures, you come into my home and tell my husband that you two got back together, you are taking advantage of his amnesia, telling him lies, me and the guys have told him the truth, we have no reason to lie to him, now get the fuck out before I fucking throw you out,” Hayley said. Mandy looked at Nick. He shrugged.

        “Mandy, get your lying butt out of here,” Kevin said. Mandy looked at Kevin.

        “Fine, oh by the way, Nick, your big brother here, he fucked your wife,” Mandy said. She went out the door. Nick looked at Kevin and Hayley.

        “Was that true?” Nick asked. Hayley looked at Kevin. He looked at her. They nodded.

        “But you forgave them, Nick, it was before you and Hayley found out that she was pregnant, you refused to let her go, you asked her to marry you,” AJ said.

        “I need some air,” Nick said. He went out back. Hayley sat down.

        “I’m going to kill that bitch,” Hayley said.

        “She’s not worth it, Hayley,” Kevin said.

        “I think you better go,” Hayley said. Kevin nodded and left. Hayley leaned forward and covered her face with her hands.

        “Hayley,” AJ said.

        “I need to be alone, AJ,” Hayley said crying. She laid on the couch. AJ went out back and saw Nick sitting in his chair looking out at the ocean.

        “What exactly happened between them?” Nick asked. AJ sat down.

        “It was a one time thing, Kevin was upset because Kristin had just filed for a divorce, he came over to your house because no one else was home and he didn’t want to be alone, Hayley made up a guest room and he pulled her in for a kiss, she pulled back and ran up to the bedroom and locked the door, she heard a knock and thinking it was you, she opened it and saw him, she backed away and ran into the bed and fell on it, he seduced her, then you came back and walked in on them, Kevin left, you looked at Hayley, she collapsed and you took her to the hospital where you two found out that she was four months pregnant, she thought you would want to end things but instead, you propose to her, telling her that you wanted to be with her forever, you took her out on your boat and she tried to tell you that she would understand if you wanted to end things, you insisted that you wanted to be with her and never let her go, she tried to understand why you would want to, but you wanted to, you two got engaged and then a month later, you two go married,” AJ said.

        “So I married her anyways,” Nick said.

        “Yeah, you made it seem like it never happened,” AJ said.

        “I can’t believe this,” Nick said.

        “Nick, you need to talk to her, she’s upset, her doc said she shouldn’t get upset,” AJ said. Nick looked at AJ. He went inside and saw Hayley gone. Nick looked at AJ. AJ searched the house. He came back shaking his head. AJ called the guys. They came over.

        “Where could she have gone?” AJ asked.

        “Back to Missouri,” Kevin said.

        “I guess I was right about me being a screw up,” Nick said.

        “Nick, whatever happened between me and Hayley shouldn’t have happened in the first place, we both know it was a mistake, well, it was my mistake for seducing her when she didn’t want it in the first place, but she loves you a great deal and she probably just needs time to think,” Kevin said.

        “I just want my memory back, I want to be normal!” Nick said put his head in his hands.

Kevin looked at Brian and they went out the door and went to the airport and found Hayley waiting for her flight. Brian sat down next to her.

        “Hayley,” Brian said.

        “How did you find me,” Hayley said.

        “We figured you would want to go home to your parents, you don’t need to leave, Nick is calling himself a screw up, you need to go back to him,” Brian said.

        “Brian,” Hayley said.

        “You are having his baby, right?” Brian asked.

        “Yes!” Hayley said.

        “You need to back to Nick, the baby needs its father, you can’t leave now, not when he needs you the most,” Brian said. Hayley nodded and got up and turned her ticket in and they went back to the house. Brian and Kevin walked in with Hayley behind them.

        “Did you find her?” Nick asked. Hayley came over to him.

        “Yes, they found me,” Hayley said. Nick pulled her down and hugged her.

Chapter 16

Hayley was doing laundry when she heard Nick’s wheelchair behind her. He pulled her into his lap and kissed her deeply.

        “I’m back, baby,” Nick said nuzzling her neck. She hugged him tight.

        “You remember everything,” Hayley said.

        “Yes, I do, it was like I was trapped in a shell and couldn’t get out and finally I broke free, I remember my life and my love for you,” Nick said.

        “I love you, Nicky,” Hayley said.

        “I love you, too, I love you more than anything, I’m not letting you go again,” Nick said.

        “I don’t want you, too,” Hayley said. He kissed her passionately.

        “How’s our little one,” Nick said putting his hand on her growing stomach.

        “Doing just fine, growing, keeping me up at night,” Hayley said.

        “Hey little one, you let your mama sleep, she needs the rest,” Nick said softly to her stomach. She smiled and kissed his forehead.

        “I love you,” Hayley said.

        “I love you, too,” Nick said.

They heard the front door open and close. Hayley got up and went out and saw Kevin.

        “Hey Kevin, what’s up,” Hayley said.

        “Just checking in,” Kevin said.

        “Hey Train, what’s up,” Nick said coming into the room. Kevin stared at him.

        “You have your memory back,” Kevin said.

        “Yeah, I do,” Nick said.

        “That is great news, I have to tell the guys,” Kevin said picking up the phone.

        “Kev, not yet, well, call them over but don’t tell them anything, I wanna surprise them,” Nick said. Kevin nodded and called Brian, AJ, and Howie over. Ten minutes later, the door opened and closed and Brian, Leighanne, AJ, and Howie came in.

        “So what’s up,” AJ said.

        “Hey, Frick, Bone, D, what’s up,” Nick said. They looked at Nick and at each other and back at Nick.

        “What the fuck,” AJ said.

        “Nicky’s back,” Howie said.

        “Frack’s back to normal,” Brian said. They hugged him. Leighanne came over and hugged Nick.

        “It’s good to have you back to normal, Nicky,” Leighanne said.

        “Thanks, Leigh,” Nick said.

        “You wanted to surprise us, huh,” AJ said.

        “Yeah, and another reason for you guys over here, Brian, Howie, AJ, and Kevin, you guys are my brothers, I love you all, Hayley and I do, and we want you four to be our baby’s godfathers, and Leighanne, we want you to be the baby’s godmother,” Nick said.

        “We would be honored,” Kevin said. Brian, Howie, and AJ nodded. Leighanne hugged Hayley and Nick.

        “I will be honored to be the baby’s godmother,” Leighanne said.

Chapter 17

Three months later, they all were in New York at a press conference. Once the press conference was over with, they were backstage when security came up to them.

        “Guys, there is a bad snowstorm coming, we better get you guys out of here, it’s starting to get bad,” one of them said. They started grabbing people. Two of them grabbed Brian and Hayley. Two grabbed Nick and AJ. Three grabbed Kevin, Howie, and Leighanne.

        “Let go, I want to go with my wife!” Nick cried.

        “I’m sorry, sir, but we can’t hold off any longer,” the guard said pulling him out.

        “Hayley!” Nick cried.

        “Nick, I’ll take care of her, she’ll be fine!” Brian called to him. Nick was pulled out the door. Brian helped Hayley to one of the cars and they took off out of the city. The car slid off the road and hit a ditch. Brian looked over at Hayley. She looked at him. Brian moved over and took her in his arms.

        “You okay,” Brian said.

        “Yeah,” Hayley said rubbing her stomach.

        “Are you sure?” Brian asked.

        “Yes, Brian, I’m fine,” Hayley said.

        “Let’s find someplace warm,” Brian said. He got out and looked around. Hayley got out. They started for the woods when they heard a cracking noise and saw the car on fire. They ran as fast as they could before they heard an explosion. They looked and saw the car completely engulfed in flames.

        “One minute longer in that car, we would have been gone,” Hayley said.

        “The driver,” Brian said.

        “I think he was already dead, I checked him before I got out,” Hayley said. They walked through the woods. They saw an abandoned mansion and headed for it. They made it to the steps before Hayley grabbed her stomach.

        “Oh god,” Hayley said.

        “Hayley,” Brian said holding onto her.

        “I think I’m in labor!” Hayley said.

        “Come on,” Brian said. They went inside and went up to one of the bedrooms and Brian made a place comfortable for Hayley and sat her down. He started a fire in the fireplace and helped her move closer to it. Hayley was crying.

        “Hayley,” Brian said.

        “This can’t be happening, I can’t be in labor, I’m two weeks away from the due date, this can’t happen!” Hayley cried.

        “It could be a false alarm,” Brian said.

        “No, it’s not, my water broke!” Hayley said.

        “I’m going to see what I can find around here,” Brian said.

        “Hurry, Brian, please,” Hayley cried in pain. Brian kissed her forehead and went out of the room.

Nick and AJ were at the destination where everyone was going to meet. Kevin, Howie, and Leighanne were already there. Nick was pacing.

        “Nick, Brian’s with her, she’ll be fine,” AJ said.

        “She’s two weeks from her due date, we should have waited until after the baby was born, she could be in labor, she could be having the baby right now without me there!” Nick said.

        “Brian can handle it,” Leighanne said.

        “Yeah right,” Nick said.

        “Nick, back in Kentucky, one of his cousins went into labor and they didn’t have time to make it to the hospital, Brian delivered the baby, he knows what to do, if Hayley goes into labor, she is in good hands,” Leighanne said.

        “I just want to be there for my baby, I want to watch my baby being born, I want to watch the life I helped create come into the world,” Nick said crying. Leighanne hugged him.

        “Is this the only baby you are going to have?” Leighanne asked.

        “No, Hayley and I talked, we want to have lots of kids,” Nick said.

        “You will have other chances,” Leighanne said.

        “But this is the first born, my first child,” Nick said. He sat down. Leighanne sat down next to him. Kevin sat down on his other side.

Hayley cried out as a contraction hit. Brian came in with blankets and towels.

        “Whoever lived here last didn’t take everything with them,” Brian said.

        Brian, I think these contractions are getting closer together,” Hayley said. Brian checked her and put the blankets under her. He looked at her.

        “It’s getting close,” Brian said.

Three hours later, the guys and Leighanne were given the all clear and got into the cars and headed back to the city. Nick looked out the window and saw something up ahead.

        “Stop the car!” Nick said. The driver stopped. Nick got out with AJ behind him. They saw the site in front of them.

        “It’s the car, the one Brian and Hayley were in,” AJ said. Nick looked around.

        “Oh god no,” Nick said.

        “No footprints,” AJ said. Nick sank to his knees.

        “No!” Nick cried covering his face.

        “If there was, they are covered up,” AJ said.

        “But they could have been in the car, AJ, it could have exploded on impact,” Nick said crying. He sat there staring at what was left of the car.

Brian sat there watching Hayley holding her baby girl. He smiled.

        “I’m going to see if anyone is out on the road, to get some help, I’ll be back,” Brian said.

        “Okay,” Hayley said. Brian went out the door and down the stairs and headed to the road. He came out of the woods and saw Nick and AJ. Nick was staring at the car. AJ looked up and locked eyes with Brian.

        “Nick, there’s Brian!” AJ said running to Brian. Brian ran up to them. Nick got up and ran to Brian.

        “Frick!” Nick said hugging Brian.

        “Hey Frack, thank god you guys are here,” Brian said. Nick saw blood on Brian’s clothes.

        “Oh god,” Nick said.

        “Nick, not what you think,” Brian said.

        “Where’s Hayley,” Nick said.

        “Come on,” Brian said. He led them to the abandoned mansion and led them upstairs to the room Hayley was in. Nick walked in and saw Hayley holding their baby.

        “Look who I found, Hayley,” Brian said. Hayley looked up and saw Nick and smiled.

        “Nicky,” Hayley said. Nick knelt down beside her and kissed her deeply.

        “Oh god, our baby,” Nick said.

        “Our baby girl, Nicky, we have a daughter, she’s perfect,” Hayley said. Nick gazed at his daughter. AJ came in.

        “The driver called for an ambulance,” AJ said.

        “AJ,” Hayley said. AJ knelt down and kissed her forehead.

        “You scared your hubby,” AJ said.

        “Sorry,” Hayley said.

        “You are okay, now, and our baby,” Nick said.

        “Let’s get her ready to go,” Brian said. They helped her up and they headed to the road.

Chapter 18

(Author’s Note-Okay, I have decided on something different, Hayley has had a long dream so she’s just waking up from the sleep she had back in Chapter 9! It’s before she found out she’s pregnant and slept with Kevin and all and after they got home from the European tour.)

Hayley woke up and saw Nick gone. She sat up and looked around and saw a note.

Hey baby, I went out on my boat. I have some things to think about and I just want you to know that I love you more than anything in the world and I will be back shortly. I love you, baby, so much. Nicky.

She smiled and laid back and thought about how much she loved Nick and how happy she was. The doorbell rang. She got up and changed and went downstairs and opened the door and saw Kevin standing there.

        “Hi Kevin, Nick’s out on his boat,” Hayley said.

        “I came to talk to you,” Kevin said. Hayley stepped aside and Kevin went in and sat down on the couch. Hayley sat down in the chair.

        “What’s up,” Hayley said.

        “Kristin knows I’m here and she knows what’s going on, I don’t know how but Hayley, I’m in love with you,” Kevin said. Hayley’s eyes widened. She got up and walked around.

        “This can’t be happening,” Hayley said.

        “Hayley,” Kevin said.

        “I had a dream, so much was going on,” Hayley said. Kevin sat here down.

        “Hayley, what was the dream about,” Kevin said. Hayley told him everything. Kevin sat there in shock.

        “Wow, Nick losing his memory, me and Kristin divorcing, some dream but Kris doesn’t want a divorce, she just wants me to deal with my feelings for you,” Kevin said.

        “I don’t want to cheat on Nick and I don’t have feelings for you, Kev, I’m sorry,” Hayley said.

        “It’s okay, Hayley,” Kevin said. The phone rang. Hayley reached over and picked it up.

        “Hello,” Hayley said.

        “Is Nick home?” a girl asked.

        “No, who’s this?” Hayley asked.

        “I’m the girl he was with the other night,” the girl said. Hayley sat there.

        “Excuse me,” Hayley said.

        “Yeah, me and Nick had a wild night of sex, it was good, just tell him that I called, my name is Heather, bye,” she said. Hayley hung up. She sat there. She leaned over and covered her face with her hands and cried.

        “Hayley, what’s wrong,” Kevin said.

        “That was a girl, her name is Heather, she said that she and Nick had a wild night of sex the other night,” Hayley said.

        “Just talk to him, Hayley, she might be lying,” Kevin said. Nick came in and saw them. He saw Hayley crying.

        “What happened,” Nick said.

        “Who’s Heather?” Hayley asked.

        “Some girl named Heather called asking for you, saying something about a wild night of sex the other night,” Kevin said. Nick’s eyes widened.

        “Is it true?” Hayley asked.

        “It didn’t mean anything,” Nick said.

        “Kevin, can you help me pack my things,” Hayley said getting up. Kevin stood up.

        “Yeah,” Kevin said. They headed for the stairs. Nick grabbed Hayley and she pulled away from him.

        “Don’t you dare touch me, you asshole, we are over,” Hayley said angrily. She and Kevin went upstairs and packed her stuff. They came downstairs and went out the door. Kevin took her to a hotel and got her checked in.

        “You going to be okay?” Kevin asked.
